On the week of June 26th, the Autism Giving Tree provided training to over 30 firefighters from the Beaufort/Port Royal Fire Department. The goal of the training program was to teach autism awareness, sensitivity, and response procedures in emergency situations as it relates to autism. The Beaufort/Port Royal Fire Department was proactive in taking this training as they prepare their department to interact with the ever-growing autism community.
The Autism Giving Tree would like to sincerely thank the firefighters for their tremendous response and engagement in the trainings. The Beaufort/Port Royal Fire Department is taking a leading role in educating themselves on autism and the potential risks this population faces in fire and emergency rescue situations.
